| Synopsis |
|
Nora is the pretty
young, indulged wife of Torvald Helmer, and mother of
three, but she has a secret that, if discovered, would
threaten her present happiness and change her life for
ever.
Henrik Ibsen was born
in 1828 and A Doll's House was written in
1879. It was first performed in London is 1889 and
is classed as one of Ibsen's social dramas, plays
that reflect social injustices of the day.
Frequently, the central character is a woman In
the mid nineteenth century women were beginning to raise
their voices against their subservient role in
society. "The women question", as it was
known in Ibsen's day, was starting to become an
issue. Nora in A Doll's House is the
embodiment of struggle for individuality. To play
this part is an ambition of all classical actresses. |
