Funny Money is classic farce by Ray
Cooney, the master of British farce. Henry Perkins is a
normal man on his way home from the office, looking
forward to celebrating his birthday with his wife Jean,
and friends Vic and Betty Johnson. But when he opens his
briefcase he discovers it has been mistakenly swapped
for one containing £1.5 million pounds. From this point
his behaviour and actions spiral out of control, with
the real ‘owner’ of the cash looming into view. Instead
of celebrating his birthday, Henry decides to run off
with Jean and the money but is continually thwarted in
this plan by a taxi driver, threatening phone calls and
the arrival of not one but two policemen, the first to
blackmail him over his behaviour in a public house, the
second to tell his wife that his body has been found
trussed up in the river. With a web of lies entangling
Henry, his desperation rises and all seems lost. Who can
save the day? |
